Healthy Body Fat Percentage For Men And Women - Understanding The Numbers
By John Davenport Platinum Quality Author

Anyone who knows anything about dieting knows that while your weight is a good criterion to determine your overall dietary condition, a much more important test is to determine how much body fat percentage you have. This is the percentage of your body's mass which is made up of fat.

What makes up a good or ideal body fat percentage? That is partly based on your goals. Body builders or athletes want to lower their body fat percentage as much as possible, even though being too thin may damage their appearance. Most people simply want to look good and be healthy. So I believe a better question would be to ask what is a healthy body fat percentage. The answer is different for women and men.

Men Body Fat Percentage

Men are much leaner than women, in general, and so are expected to maintain a lower body fat percentage. For men, anything below 25% body fat is considered an acceptable body fat percentage in terms of health, though anything above 18% means that they are far from lean.

Anything between 14-18% is considered very healthy. A man with such a body far percentage will appear fit. Under 14% body fat and a man is in athletic shape, at least as far as his body fat is concerned. Under 10% and a man will have his six pack showing. For men, 2-4% is considered essential fat level. Anything below that is considered unhealthy.

Women Body Fat Percentage

Women are overall fatter than men. For women an acceptable body fat percentage is 25-31%. Anything over that is obese. A fit woman will likely register 20-24% body fat. Anything below 20% and the woman will appear very lean indeed. Most women view this range as the ideal body fat percentage range. For women, the level of essential fat is much higher than for men, and it registers at 10-12%. Anything below that is considered an unhealthy body far percentage rate.

I hope I've helped you to better understand the term of body fat. Remember: with the right diet and fitness routine you can lower your body fat regardless of genetics.

By Matt Adler Platinum Quality Author

Boot camp fitness programs are rigorous, physically demanding training sessions designed to see maximum results in a minimal amount of time. These programs are designed by fitness and nutrition experts and combine exercise and diet to help you lose weight and improve your health.

These exercise programs were designed around the boot camps found in the military branches. They are designed to push you to your limits. Unlike the stereotypical idea of a military boot camp, fitness boot camps will encourage you in a positive way, and do their goal is not to belittle you or insult you.

The trainers will support you mentally and physically. The fitness program typically starts with a comprehensive health screening. This process will include measuring your body fat, taking your resting heart rate, measuring your blood pressure, weighing you, and determining your present overall health. The boot camp fitness program usually ends with a similar screening to determine your results.

Outdoor fitness is often the primary form of exercise in a boot camp program. Activities can include running, obstacle courses, push ups, rope and wall climbing, military style drills, and team building exercises. These are not your typical exercise programs.

Fitness boot camps can be designed in a variety of ways depending on the camp. Some are more like classes where you can attend before or after work. Others are actual camps where you live and can last anywhere from one week to over six weeks. Some camps are co-ed while others may be specifically designed for women’s fitness.

It is important to research each boot camp and fitness program before joining. Find one that meets your scheduling and financial needs, and provides activities that you find interesting. Boot camps are not for everyone, but they can provide excellent results in the shortest amount of time.

Fitness boot camps are fast becoming the latest craze in the health-conscious modern world. More and more people prefer fitness boot camps to exercising in the gyms or at home and this is converting fitness boot camps into a money-raking business.

Fitness boot camps provide a power-packed workout in the span of an hour. It is this economical usage of time that drives people to fitness boot camps. These boot camps may meet several times a week, for an hour's duration each.

Classes begin with a simple warm-up exercise like squatting or sit-ups or walking on the treadmill. Usually people perform these exercises in groups and then alternate their exercises. This helps to break the monotony. As the class progresses, the exercises become more and more difficult. There is just no letting go till the class is complete.

Many people who join such fitness boot camps find it very taxing at first. But when they realize the benefits, they change their minds. Some just aren't physically able to keep up, so health experts recommend potential clients get a checkup before joining a fitness boot camp.

Fitness boot camps are not for the faint of heart. The instructor is often harsh, yelling at his people and reprimanding them in no uncertain terms for failing to maintain standards. There are punishments for being late, which could be more exercise. At the end of the day, the instructor's mission is to give people the maximum workout possible.

Mostly, retired army or navy personnel run fitness boot camps. They may have their own camp or they may utilize open-air places like parks or beaches. Being surrounded by nature gives more value to the exercise. There are fitness boot camps designed specially for women, older people and children. They are also a bit costlier than gyms. A 20-hour class would cost roughly from $200 to $250, prices being subjective of the location and the reputation of the class. There is also variation in the time for which the classes are conducted and the number of days.

The majority of people who have joined fitness boot camps are quite satisfied with the end product, though they may have problems earlier due to the harsh methods employed. They believe that in these times of hectic schedules a fitness boot camp may be the only answer to getting a high-value workout.
